Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find availability for the Bubbles?

Our Bubbles are insanely popular and are usually booked months in advance. The easiest way to find availability is by clicking here. All of the Bubble types are at the top and you can see which ones are open for specific dates. This calendar is updated immediately when we get a cancellation. If you don’t see availability on the calendar, we don’t have any availability. Unfortunately, we are unable to keep a waitlist.  Again, our availability is accurate on the website at all times. We do not have any secret openings 🙂

If you’re looking to book both Bubble 1 and 2 or more than one Bubble on Bubble Mountain (Bubble X2, X3, X4), please email us at to see when multiple Bubbles are available on the same day.

How do I make a reservation?

Click these links to take you directly to each sites availability: Basecamp TerlinguaAgave Terlingua and Nuevo Terlingua. You can book directly from these calendars. Make sure to check all 3 links if you don’t see availability on one site. We take reservations online only. There is also a unique availability calendar for each property, at the bottom of each property page. For example, if you just want to see when Casa Azul is open, go here, and scroll to the bottom of the page.

From the Home page, you can navigate to each individual property.

If you are trying to book more than one unit or are having trouble booking, please email us at

What are your rates?

Click here to see our rate calendar. Our rates vary greatly by property and season. Our campsites start at $45/night and Rafiki Ridge starts at $499/night. Rates are higher in busy seasons like October, March/April, chili cook-off (first weekend in November), holidays and weekends. The total rate for your chosen stay will appear before you finalize your reservation. You can see our full availability calendar with rates here. To see rates for Nuevo Terlingua click here and for Agave Terlingua click here. Note that there is cleaning fee per stay which you can see under your reservation summary as “fees.”

Where are you located?

Our accommodations are located in Terlingua, Texas, near Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park. You can view maps for our accommodations by clicking here. The closest commercial airports to Terlingua are Midland International Air and Space Port, Del Rio International Airport and El Paso International Airport. There are no transportation companies (Uber, Lyft, etc.) or taxis in Terlingua.

Is there a car rental place in the area?

Yes! Terlingua Jeep Rentals has Jeep Gladiators available for full day and multi-day rentals.

Are your properties pet-friendly?

No, we do not allow pets at any of our properties. If you are traveling with a certified service animal, please let us know before your arrival. We do not allow emotional support animals.

Are children allowed?

Yes! We love kids, however, anyone 13 and over must be counted as an adult. For example 2 adults and their 14 year old child would need to be counted as 3 adults.

Do you allow RVs/Campers/Trailers

No, we do not allow RVs, campers or trailers to be parked at our properties due to the nature of our roads and tight parking areas.

How many Lotus tents and tipis do you have?

We have 6 Luxury tipis and 6 Lotus tents. Our availability calendar won’t show how many are available for each day so if you are looking to book for a group and need more than one tent or tipi, please email us at and we will help!

Do the tipis and Lotus tents have climate control?

Yes!  In the summer months the Basecamp tipis and Lotus Tents have evaporative coolers, and in the winter we provide space heaters and electric blankets. It should still be thought of as “glamping” though. Since the Tipis and Tents are not sealed or insulated, it will still be warm in peak summer days.  You should still bring your warm clothes in the winter if the forecast for your arrival shows cooler temperatures.

Do you have WiFi?

We pay for the fastest service available in the Big Bend region. All of our properties, including the tipis, are equipped with WiFi routers. This does not in any way guarantee internet will be available for your stay, however, we will do our best to fix internet issues before 5pm. We are incredibly remote (which is probably why you’re coming to visit us!) and county-wide outages are a real thing.

Where do I check-in?

We provide self check-in information to your email 7 days prior to your arrival with directions and access information. “Self Check-in” means that you’re given the information necessary to arrive at your property on your own. This is especially helpful if you’re planning a late arrival: no need to be here at any specific time! If you can’t find your check-in information be sure to check your “junk” or “spam” folder as they can sometimes end up there.

Do you provide firewood?

All of our properties come with fire pits, but no, we do not provide or sell firewood. Cottonwood grocery store in Study Butte (about 5 miles away) is the only location nearby to purchase firewood, and many other supplies. The gas station usually has firewood as well. Year-round campfires are allowed at our properties even when the county is under a burn ban.

Where are the nearest places to eat?

Starlight Theater, High Sierra Bar and Grill, Chili Pepper Cafe, DBs Rustic Iron BBQ, Big Bend Motor Inn Cafe and Rio Bravo Mexican Restaurant are all within 5 miles of our properties. Your check-in details will have specifics about all the restaurants in the area.

What time is check-in & checkout?

Check-in is any time after 3pm.

Checkout is by 10 a.m.

We have a self check-in process that allows folks to come any time they’d like. No need to check in with us if you’re expecting a late arrival.

I booked a room, now I have additional questions

You will receive an email with self check-in instructions 7 days prior to your arrival date. This will have information about accessing the property, WiFi network names, and lots of other important information to make your stay comfortable and safe! Please keep an eye out for this as it can often end up in a spam or junk folder.
As always, feel free to reach out to us over email if you have questions not covered in these FAQ’s.

What are your business hours?

We are available to respond to emails from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., 7 days a week. If you reach out after hours we will respond to you the following morning.
7 days prior to your arrival date, you will be provided with two phone numbers to reach us during your stay, one being our an after-hours emergency number to be used only between 5pm and 8am.

What is your cancellation policy?

7 days or less before your arrival date – no refund or reschedule
8 – 14 days before your arrival date – 50% refund
15 days or more before your arrival date – 100% refund ($25 cancellation fee per room applies)
If you need to cancel, please send us an email requesting a cancellation for our records. We do not accept cancellation requests by phone or by text.
If you are 15 days or more before you arrival date and need to modify your reservation, please send us an email and we can assist you with changing the reservation on our end to hopefully avoid any fees. Note that we manage three companies, Basecamp Terlingua, Agave Terlingua and Nuevo Terlingua, and you cannot change rooms between the companies without incurring a cancellation fee.
Our cancellation policy remains in place during the pandemic. We do not make exceptions to the policy for area power outages, park closures or other things that are out of our control.

What to expect when visiting Big Bend

We are in the Chiuhuhuan desert. That means you might come across critters, both indoors and out. Snakes, scorpions and other wildlife are part of what makes this area so wonderfully wild. Please be aware of your surroundings, and watch your step. (We recommend bringing a flashlight as there are no streetlights in Terlingua!)
Utility outages are also a common experience for everyone who lives and frequently visits the area: If you experience a power or internet outage it is likely happening for everyone in the area and can often take over 2 hours to restore, as crews are dispatched out of Alpine. And while our water crew is locally based, we are on a rural system. Outages are rarely longer than a few hours, but they do occasionally happen.
If you find yourself experiencing any of these issues while staying with us feel free to reach out by email and we will let you know if we have updates on when things will be up and running again.
We provide this information ahead of time so you know what to reasonably expect when visiting the area. We do not provide refunds for situations out of our control, but we will do our best to make sure you are comfortable.
Check out for lots of useful info about the area.
