How do I find availability for the Bubbles?

Our Bubbles are insanely popular and are usually booked months in advance. We have 7 Bubbles at Basecamp Terlingua and 10 Bubbles with Bubble Terlingua. The easiest way to find availability is by clicking here for the Bubbles at Basecamp Terlingua or here for the Bubbles at Bubble Terlingua. The calendars are updated immediately when we get a cancellation. If you don’t see availability on the calendar, we don’t have any availability. We are unable to keep a waitlist and we do not have any secret openings. 🙂

If you’re looking to book both Bubble 1 and 2, more than one Bubble on Bubble Mountain (Bubble X2, X3, X4) or more than one Bubble with Bubble Terlingua, please email us at info@basecampterlingua.com to see when multiple Bubbles are available on the same day.

What are your rates?

Our rates vary greatly by property and season. Our campsites start at $45/night and Rafiki Ridge starts at $499/night. Rates are higher in busy seasons like October, March/April, chili cook-off (first weekend in November), holidays and weekends. The total rate for your chosen stay will appear before you finalize your reservation. You can see our full availability calendar with rates here:  Basecamp Terlingua click here, Bubble Terlingua click here, Adventure Terlingua click here and for Agave Terlingua click here. Note that there is cleaning fee per stay and a processing fee, which you can see under your reservation summary as “fees.”

We do not make exceptions to the policy for Covid or other viral sickness, area power outages, weather in your area or ours, nature, Wifi outages, park closures or other things that are out of our control.

Where do I check-in?

We provide self check-in information to your email 7 days prior to your arrival with directions and access information. “Self Check-in” means that you’re given the information necessary to arrive at your property on your own. This is especially helpful if you’re planning a late arrival: no need to be here at any specific time! Please make sure you have the check-in information before you make the drive to Terlingua. If you can’t find your check-in information be sure to check your “junk” or “spam” folder.

What time is check-in & checkout?

Check-in is any time after 3 p.m., Central time.

Checkout is by 10 a.m., Central time.

We have a self check-in process that allows folks to come any time they’d like. No need to check in with us if you’re expecting a late arrival.  However, if it is your first time in the area we do encourage you to arrive before dark.

Where are you located?

Our accommodations are located in Terlingua, Texas, near Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch State Park. You can view maps for our accommodations by clicking here. The closest commercial airports to Terlingua are Midland International Air and Space Port, Del Rio International Airport and El Paso International Airport. There are no transportation companies (Uber, Lyft, etc.) or taxis in Terlingua.

Are your properties pet-friendly?

No, we do not allow pets at any of our properties and there is a $300 fee for violation of the pet policy. If you are traveling with a certified service animal, you must let us know before your arrival. We do not allow emotional support animals.

Are children allowed?

Yes! We love kids, however, anyone 13 and over must be counted as an adult. For example 2 adults and their 14 year old child would need to be counted as 3 adults.

Is there a car rental place in the area?

Yes! Terlingua Jeep Rentals has Jeep Gladiators and a Vanderhall Roadster available for full day and multi-day rentals.

Do you allow RVs/Campers/Trailers

We do not allow RVs, campers or trailers to be parked at most of our Basecamp, Adventure and Agave properties due to the nature of our roads and tight parking areas. However, Bubble Terlingua has ample room for RVs. If in doubt, contact us at info@basecampterlingua.com.

How many Lotus Tents and Tipis do you have?

We have 6 Luxury tipis, 6 Lotus tents, 4 tent campsites and a Nomad Tipi. You can book a Tipi, a Lotus Tent or a tent campsite here – Adventure Terlingua.  Our availability calendar won’t show how many are available for each day so if you are looking to book for a group and need more than one tent or tipi, please email us at info@adventureterlingua.com and we will help!

Do the Tipis and Lotus Tents have climate control?

Yes and no. The Tipis and Lotus Tents are not sealed or insulated so you should still consider your stay as a “glamping” experience that does not include traditional air conditioning or heat.

In the summer, the Tipis and Lotus Tents include an evaporative cooler. However, the evaporative cooler will not completely cool the entire Tipi or Lotus Tent and it will still be warm in peak summer days.  In the winter, we provide a small space heater and an electric blanket. If it is cold outside, it will be cold inside your Tipi or Lotus Tent. If staying in a Tipi or Lotus Tent please prepare appropriately for the weather forecast.

We urge you to be reasonable about your personal expectations regarding comfort.  If the Tipis or Lotus Tents do not seem like a good fit for you, we have several other accommodations that include traditional AC/heat.  Please note that we do not issue refunds due to weather or personal discomfort because of the temperature.

Do you have WiFi?

We pay for the fastest service available in the Big Bend region. All of our properties, including the tipis, are equipped with WiFi routers. This does not in any way guarantee internet will be available for your stay, however, we will do our best to fix internet issues before 5pm. We are incredibly remote (which is probably why you’re coming to visit us!) and county-wide outages are a real thing.

Do you provide firewood?

All of our properties come with fire pits, but no, we do not provide or sell firewood. Cottonwood grocery store in Study Butte (about 5 miles away) is the only location nearby to purchase firewood, and many other supplies. The gas station usually has firewood as well. Year-round campfires are allowed at our properties even when the county is under a burn ban.

Where are the nearest places to eat?

Venga Cafe is our new cafe and gear store, located at 45 Kempf Road. Check out the menu at Venga Cafe.

Starlight Theater, High Sierra Bar and Grill, Chili Pepper Cafe, DBs Rustic Iron BBQ and Big Bend Motor Inn Cafe are all within 5 miles of our properties. Your in-room binder will have specifics about all the restaurants in the area. You can find more information about the area here – terlinguatexas.com

Do you have an event space for rent?

Yes! Venga Cafe offers a cool, artsy vibe with indoor and outdoor seating and is available to rent for private events – Venga Private Events Page.   Contact events@vengaterlingua.com for more information.

What are your business hours?

We are available to respond to emails from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., 7 days a week. If you reach out after hours we will respond to you the following morning.

7 days prior to your arrival date, you will be provided with two phone numbers to reach us during your stay, our reservation number and our after-hours emergency number.

I booked a room, now I have additional questions

You will receive an email with self check-in instructions 7 days prior to your arrival date. This will have information about accessing the property, WiFi network names, and lots of other important information to make your stay comfortable and safe! Please keep an eye out for this as it can often end up in a spam or junk folder.

As always, feel free to reach out to us over email if you have questions not covered in these FAQ’s.

What to expect when visiting Big Bend

We are in the Chihuahuan desert. That means you might come across critters, both indoors and out. Snakes, scorpions and other wildlife are part of what makes this area so wonderfully wild. Please be aware of your surroundings, and watch your step. (We recommend bringing a flashlight as there are no streetlights in Terlingua!)

Utility outages are also a common experience for everyone who lives and frequently visits the area: If you experience a power or internet outage it is likely happening for everyone in the area and can often take over 2 hours to restore, as crews are dispatched out of Alpine. And while our water crew is locally based, we are on a rural system. Outages are rarely longer than a few hours, but they do occasionally happen. If you find yourself experiencing any of these issues while staying with us feel free to reach out by email and we will let you know if we have updates on when things will be up and running again.

We provide this information ahead of time so you know what to reasonably expect when visiting the area. We do not provide refunds for situations out of our control, but we will do our best to make sure you are comfortable.
